Motorcycle Leather Types

There are a lot of different types of leather jackets being sold.  Most of the time you will get what you pay for.  Let's review some of the leather jacket materials you will find.

  • Naked Leather - This type of jacket is naturally the best.  It is the smoothest and most variant free leather of its types.  Other leathers go through a lot of refinement to copy the natural smooth looks of a naked leather.   Naked leather is smooth, thick, and soft.  It is a very protective leather due to its thickness.  Naked Leather motorcycle jackets usually measures approximately 1.4-1.6mm in thickness.
  • Split Leather - As the name implies this leather is actually split off from the upper layers of the hide and processed considerably to have a nice visual appeal.  Split leather it thinner and measures approximately
  • Buffalo Leather - This leather is thick and grainy but very protective.  Buffalo motorcycle jackets are at least 1.98 mm in thickness.  Buffalo is a really nice compromise when shopping by price but you don't want to sacrifice safety.
